Hey Darren...this was my pick for the blue.....don't feel too bad (and I know that's very easy to say...I'd be really pissed off)....but whether it's been DQ'd or not, you've still got the knowledge that during voting it was the 5th most popular image out of 530 entrants!

don't feel bad Darren, I was DQ'd for the same reason in the Nov08 FS and the shot came in 4h. Live and Learn..

That's poopy... :( Such a nice shot. Not sure what went wrong but I would love to see the original.
Does it have anything to do with whatever must have held the piece of wood in place? It almost appears to be hovering in free air but it's hard to tell.

No! I can't believe this was DQ'd. I hope you are not too bummed. It still remains one of the best -- be proud of that!

Back for a bump. Not only is the lighting excellent here, but it's a great example of storytelling. Those dirty, gritty hands make the shot.

Excellent capture of the motion and the texture of the hand is really great. Conveys the sense of "Wood Turner" - well done, the lighting and composition finishes it off very nicely.

Aaaaugh! I LOVE photos like this. Ok, I know I've only voted on 8% so far, but after 8% of these photos, this is my favorite and my hihgest rated one. You are THE BOMB for seeing this and pulling the processing and presentation off like this. Oh and if your # of fave's just went up. That would be me of course :)

excellent shot -the details of the sawdust, the motion created by the lathe, the intensity of focus seen without being seen - it provides a great study of the artisan

Nice detail in this shot and I like the feeling of motion converyed in the wood. Lighting is handled well and exposure is great. Composition is solid and draws your eyes to the wood which I think is the major element in this shot.
