The 21st and last mission, and the last stop on the Mission Trail in Sonoma, California, where Ansel spent a fair amount of time shooting. I scouted around for some vineyards and golden hills to shoot, but the flat light and lack of a single cloud in the sky thwarted that plan, so I stopped by the Mission in downtown Sonoma to try to grab an Anselish shot.
It was still sorta early (10 am or so), and I thought the sun raking across the Mission provided a pretty broad tonal range between light and shadow that would lead to a decently Anselish shot. I would have preferred to avoid the few stray tree branches at the bottom of the shot, but couldn't find a good angle to capture both the Mission bell and the cross and avoid the trees.
Processed in Lightroom, then exported to PSE 5.0 for some Noise Ninja and a small bit of dodging inside the bell to bring out the texture a bit, before resizing, bordering and S4W.
Almost went with this outtake, but since Ansel was a charter member of f/64 I'm not sure he would have appreciated the shallow DOF all that much. :-)
