I folded a piece of black cloth over my ironing board, sat a small piece of plexiglass on top of that. The wine glass was filled with just plain water and ice. Lit from the left side with a blacklight and the right side with a very small flashlight. The rest of the room was dark. It has been so hot here the ice was melting quickly. I should have put the wine glass in the freezer for awhile before starting, it might have stopped the glass from sweating. Too late now! I am pretty pleased with the outcome. Only wish the reflection of the black light on the left could be spot-edited.

Adjusted levels, boosted contrast for a deeper blue, cropped and sharpened.

Tech info:
Aperture F5.0
Shutter: .6 sec

Focal length: 37mm (using kit lens that came with the Digital Rebel.)

Simply amazing how many people don't realize that liquid and solid are opposites. This challenge was really a pain. Some very rude comments, not just on mine but on alot of others who entered. Let's see, when you have water and put it in a glass, it's liquid. When you take water and freeze it into an ice cube its a solid. It really isn't that hard to figure out. Alas, I do see the soft focus issue. Thanks to those for pointing it out to me. The helpful comments are always appreciated.

a bit better focus, and I couldn't have asked for more! Still, a solid concept (and the fact that you used ice and didn't feel you had to tie it to fire to get the opposite scores you major bonus points in my world!)

there is nothing opposite about that!

The blue colour is nice. The background is a little distracting, it would be good if it could be solid black.

you should have used a soft box to get rid of the glare on the sides of the glass

This shot has a lot of potential with the right lighting and composition and angle. The way it is set up now is uninteresting to me personally, the glare on the glass is distracting and the negative space on the right does nothing for the shot to me. Maybe if you tried lighting from behind or underneath? Also, focus is lacking on the base even though most of the glass looks like it's {b]almost[/b] in focus. A 2 as is, sorry

Nice colours, but feels just a little out of focus. I think it needs more DOF to really do it justice.

Most interesting I've seen so far...nice color, but the glass' edges are lost a bit on the black background. Appears tilted to left just a hair.
