Many thanks to my good friend Josh, for braving the cold and damp to let me take his picture...and the snow in his eyes too, he's such a good sport.

B+W conversion, USM, save for web.

I swear, that lens has such a narrow depth of field...heh.

I chose Josh because he is absolutely the most silent person I know. He is definitely the quiet type, and doesn't care that silence sometimes makes him an awkward person to be around. I don't know if anyone else can see his silence in his face, but I can -- in his eyes, in the lines around his mouth, in the turn of his head.

Nice shot. Makes me wonder what he is waiting on and what he's thinking. 8

nice casual portrait. i like the snow in the hair. overall though i'm not feeling it. the subject is silent but silence didn't really come to mind until i remembered what the challenge topic was.

Brilliant. Amazing feeling of silence here.

I like this very much. I'm afraid that some people will look at the picture and wonder "silence?" But I hope they take in the whole thing, including the title. He's obviously waiting, and has been for awhile--with the snow gathering. He's not waiting with someone, moving and talking, or the snow and the hair would be more disturbed.

The only thing that might have made it better (for this category) is perhaps having him look over the photographers shoulder, or off more to the side, instead of directly at the camera. With him looking at the camera, it engages us, and we're part of the scene. He doesn't seem as alone (and silent) that way.

I still say--excellent shot - 8

I like this picture a lot. The b/w works well, use of thirds is good, whited-out b/g draws attention to him, and the snow on his hair and clothing makes it look like he's coming forward out of the b/g, so gives it a sense of story. The lighting is good, no glare-y areas that I can see. There is a sense of expectancy in his eyes and his lips are parted just right...any more open and he would appear to be about to speak, but fully closed could make his face look tense.
The main criticque here is the tight-ish crop at the top of his head. The b/g may turn off some of the purists here, but I like it.
I have a confession to make...I don't yet know how to do keyboard voting so until a fellow dpcer enlightens me, I am leaving *real* scores for now, which sadly I will have to change to avoid accusations of friend voting. This cute guy gets a 7.

Awesome lighting, perfect exposure, tones, focus, contrast, etc. This has got to be a winner. :)

I do not understand, in my modest opinion, the link with the silence, at least not so clear.
