This doesn't speak to me at all, it's just kind of drab and lonely, nothing pops for me.

Good shot. A bit more color would be nice.

No gas today, no reason left to stay. Nice desolate feel to this shot.

Definitely looks like a desolate, abandoned place.

Finally! Interesting use of shadow to emphasize the abandonment.

Interesting capture of a seemingly abandoned space. I like how the colors kind of add to the bleakness.

the desaturation (?) works here, or is that the actual color?

Image feels very flat. The muted tones work well with the image but subject feels a bit unbalanced in the frame.

Good saturation. It might have worked in black and white, but it certainly didn't need bold colors. The little bit of color you retained is perfect. I like the geometry and framing also.

Must be an outtake from the gas stations challenge. A good photo to show the decay and ruin.

This is a nice sharp photo but I would have scored it higher had it been cropped and/or composed differently

Outtake from gas station? Nice shot. Since you're cutting off the overhang a little already, you might want to try cropping it in from the left some more. I realize that you'd lose the "fina" on the overhang, but the left 1/5 of the picture doesn't have much interest, and the tall pole and the sweeping upward wire at the top are a little distracting. Try cropping it in from left to right before the black rectangular sign--I think it will concentrate the focus a little more and get rid of some distractions.

Love that tiny 'Trust Jesus' graffiti in there. There's something so interesting about a closed gas station.

FWIW, I recall hearing something about there being a requirement to leave the ground of a gas station undeveloped for X number of years (I think 10 years) for environmental protection reasons back when I was working at one. Could be wrong.

All the horizontal shapes are great; one one level it's a near abstract of bold blocks, some kind of secret order out of desolation. 7.

you captured the deserted feeling well. the border is too strong in my opinion.

I like the slight desat look. The frame adds drama it wouldn't otherwise have, I think.

This is so desolate. Nice mood. Not sure about the border. It's so similar to the canopy. Like the muted tones.

seems a bit dark...do you think that the framing adds to the dark feel? curves/levels??

03/11/2009 05:16:32 PM
crop is a little too tight in my opinion, and the desaturation of colors makes this look drab... but not in a good way.

Sorry I dont like this. Wires and distractions and bad colors to me. In the gas station challenge for basic editing it would be nice but for this challenge I just dont think it works.
