The old Changi Hospital, Singapore.
During World War 2, the Japanese army carried out horrific torture and executions within these now abandoned walls.
Walking through the deserted hallways, one can almost hear the haunting screams that must have once resonated throughout the hospital.
The room at the end of the hall, from what I've heard from others more expert on the place than I, is the infamous execution chamber. It's hard to tell now. All that's left are a few old pieces of wood and peeled paint. But it's easy to imagine it is that room as you stare down the creeking corridor.
In case you're wondering about the title, the building is full of disconcerting sounds. Small objects being dropped, the tapping of wood on plaster. They seem to come from all around. One minute it's from in front, the next it's coming from in the ceiling. Rats or nesting birds most likely. But when that tapping sound rang out momentarily from behind the distant door, my heart almost stopped dead. |
