Taken from a bridge with tripod, you can't tell but this stream is in the middle of downtown honolulu and is surrounded by condos and old homes. Shot at sunrise and is about a 1/4 mile from where I live.

my highest score to date. thanks to all that voted and took the time to leave a comment.
another little tidbit...
the mist in the picture is actually smoke, there pretty much is no morning mist or fog in the low lying areas of the islands.
the smoke is from a company that has set up their large grill and is cooking 1/2 chickens as a fund raiser. the term for these chickens are "huli-huli chicken" (pronounced who-lee who-lee) which in hawaiian, basically means to turn over or to flip something over. this grilling process creates ALOT of smoke. |

Greetings from the Critique Club!
Initial impression: Wow, very nicely done and in very tough lighting conditions. Slightly dreamy feel adds to the impact.
Technical: Composition and dof great, lighting ambient, some beams and reflection off water are a little glarey. Smaller aperture would have helped. Shows off tree very well, like the way your subject also helps frame the light showing it to advantage.
Artistic: 'shot at sunrise'....that says it all. Great soft glow, and love the explanation of the smoke! :-)
FWIW: Looks like you went and saw your shot, set your alarm for 4am and went and did it. Good for you! I admire that kind of dedication. Apart from a smaller aperture I might have cropped it at the bottom a little. Not surprised you finished in the top 10. Keep up the great work!
Feel free to PM me with any questions,
Susan

beautiful! But imo its a little overexposed (i know this is a dificult light situation... but i dont think that this is the best exposure settings, considering that the rules allow ways to fix this) |

Great spot. Sunbeams are a little too overpowering, IMO. 8 |
