Challenge: Darkness II (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX 18-105 f/3.5-5.6 ED VR
Location: My desk
Date: May 4, 2009
Aperture: f5.3
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/4
Galleries: Still Life, Horror
Date Uploaded: May 4, 2009

Made the background using the 'gradient' tool in PS. Then I displayed it on my monitor which I turned on end to get the portrait format.
The figure is of 'Bastet the Cat Goddess'(which we brought home from a trip to Egypt and weighs a ton!)
I used a desk lamp to light the figure, moving it around and trying different angles. I made a homemade snoot to try and prevent reflections or glare on the BG.
The camera was on a tripod and fired by remote.

Well positioned and lit. May have excluded the black border as it is only really visible on the right side and distracts me from the subject a little.

A tiny bright golden spot on the bottom is really distracting.

The offset is a little strong. Having said that, the back lighting is very intriguing and the subject itself is an object that wants to be viewed and examined more closely. The heavy offset to the right disallows for this and thus impacts the image negatively. Additionally, the little extra something to the left of the statue is out of place even though it's a part of the object. What is exposed is excellant and technically competant. A little more time and thought in composition might have improved the image significantly. Originally rated a 6 because of it's immediate negatives, its been rerated a 7 for what is exposed is technically effective.
