Date Uploaded: May 23, 2004

 This picture was taken using the EF 100mm f/2.8 macro USM lens and the Canon MT-24EX flash. The scene was backlit by the sun to give the lighting in the background. One flash head was used to illuminate the butterfly and the other was held in my hand to illuminate the leaves in the foreground. As far as post processing I did a slight crop, upped the contrast a bit and a light USM though it really didn’t need it.

This looks like there is a large area that was Photoshopped, in front of the butterfly. In any event I find the foggy looking area to look unnatural.

Exquisite detail, marvelous composition and framing, love colors on the insect. Don't care if the there are multiple light sources or not. Excellent.

Great shot! Very nice focus and DOF. The lighting is fantastic as well. (I'll take your word for there being multiple sources, though I don't think it is "obvious") This is one of my favorites from this challenge.

Wonderful macro - great sense of the fragility of the wings here, and the curl of its proboscis (sp?) . Great detail, good light. More than one source? It isn't clear, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt I suppose.
