I like this one, for lack of a better word, it's electric, vibrant.
Reminds me too of "strangers on a train" - perhaps a stretch or perhaps a bit clichéd, but alas...

Well, I do strive to be cool... maybe one day I will reach the levels of 'coolness' that others so eloquently display here sometimes :(

could have solved both problems (plant, title) by making the title something reguarding the plant. like "shunned greeneries", to imply that the poor little chloroplast motherfucker was all alone and not doing the funky curvy dance that everything else was. BUT NO. YOU HAD TO BE COOL. oh well. still a great shot, dont know why it didnt get a better rating compared to the rest of what i saw. i rated this pic above everyone else, at a 9.

How it was done:

I bought a little tabletop tripod just for this shot. I set the camera up on the tripod and then framed my image. I made about 30 shots at various exposure lengths between 1/60" and 2" at F8. I used the shutter priority mode for this shot and didn't play with manual aperture at all. I also played with different white balance settings. This is not a complicated shot. It just requires a still camera and keeping people from walking in and out of the image.

I would like to thank everyone who took the opportunity to give me feedback on this photograph. Even though I had a "stupid title", I had a great time participating in my first challenge and I'm pleased with the results. This forum is blessed with some very talented photographers. I hope to improve my skills through these challenges. Cheers!

I love the way the lights curve around...not something they would normally do unless taken in motion. Just as there is motion in curves.

I LOVE long exposure pics like this, its just a shame my little Canon ixus can't do them.

The ghostly horses in this merry-go-around gives a huge visual clue that this is a moving object. Good job.
04/13/2002 01:38:00 PM
Very good photograph and nice effect -- though you're slightly tilted to the left.
04/13/2002 02:30:00 AM
Cool shot, though I wish the plant was not in the picture.
04/11/2002 08:33:00 PM
stupid title. amazing shot.
04/11/2002 05:14:00 PM
Nice shot, but it could be better if it were centered and the plant wasn't there
04/11/2002 12:55:00 PM
That carousel seems familiar... where did you take this picture?
04/11/2002 10:57:00 AM
love the fantastic colors.
04/10/2002 06:35:00 PM
That's impressive

I hadn't made any comments on this challenge. After talking to you, I found myself a bit more assured of my critiqueing abilities. This is a beautifully colored and executed photograph. The focus is superb.

Great subject, but probably bettter from another angle.
04/09/2002 10:44:00 PM
i like how the motion trails are wispy and doesn't distract. and the lights are striking. definitely one shot to try myself.
04/09/2002 12:56:00 PM
very creative, nice shot
04/09/2002 12:34:00 PM
Nice shot but tilted. Good depiction of the theme. Nice colors. In this instance, I think that the plant in the front detracts from the photo
04/09/2002 11:41:00 AM
Nice! I didn't relize the middle of thoses is stationary.
04/09/2002 11:19:00 AM
what an incredible image! its like a time machine! too bad about the potted plant.
04/09/2002 10:09:00 AM
cool!! Very nice!!
04/09/2002 07:52:00 AM
wow... very cool blur effect there. And I like the colors too.
04/09/2002 05:35:00 AM
Great shot! - too bad you can't submit twice - would be a great one for the motion challenge this week ;)
04/08/2002 11:05:00 PM
You've got curve, no doubt about it. Good job in controlling the exposure. The colors are nice and rich.
04/08/2002 09:10:00 PM
Beautiful! The plant in the foreground actually enhances the motion going on behind it.
04/08/2002 05:35:00 PM
Brilliant idea - spot on exposure - perfect white balance
04/08/2002 04:32:00 PM
Cool photo, I don't think I would like to be on those stallions. :)
04/08/2002 04:16:00 PM
the light effect here is superb. unfortunately, the rest of the image is lacking a little. the plant in the left lower corner detracts from the composition, and the whole thing is tilted a little to left. if those two things were corrected, this would be very nice.
04/08/2002 01:43:00 PM
I don't always like light trails in pictures but I think you used them very well to indicate motion. Very nice photo.
04/08/2002 01:12:00 PM
Would have been teriffic if you had been able to "stop" a horse or two.
04/08/2002 12:41:00 PM
Whoosh! Cool picture, plant in the foreground kind of muddies it up though.
04/08/2002 12:26:00 PM
I like the contrast between the areas with sharp focus and the areas that are blurred.
04/08/2002 09:00:00 AM
wonderful. the plant keeps it from being a 10, but really nice shot.
04/08/2002 08:36:00 AM
Maybe slightly faster aperture would have been better, showing some of the ride horses ? Good entry.
04/08/2002 07:08:00 AM
That plant blows it. Cropping badly needed.
04/08/2002 12:19:00 AM
Bravo! Very well done. I love the plant for the extra added touch.
