Pioneer Court House Square. Users of the square play chess (or checkers) next to the bonze artwork of a chess board. Two games going in this shot. I liked the concentration of the two gentlemen in the foreground.

Converted to B&W. I thought the color version was too distracting. I've heard that "street" shots don't do well in Free Studies but I liked this shot so here goes...

I'm hoping for above 5. I think maybe 5.0 to 5.3. I think I'll get dinged for some areas being blown, dinged for too busy. Dinged for too much DOF (background should be blurred - which I would agree).

Nice shot, and I like having the BG in the shot as well. Looking at very old B&W photos, there are sometimes things of historical interest in the BG, like cars, signs, buildings, the way people dress ect that mean more to me than the main subject in the image. There's not much in the BG in this one that would fit that category, but it's a good street shot none the less.
I don't know whose move it is, but it's going to get messy pretty soon here. My bet is on black if it's his move.

Well, now you know (!). Truly a 5.1 isn't bad for a street shot in a FS. The players and spectators are clearly engaged, but it lacks a real "wow" factor necessary for a high score. I gave it a six.

The background is fine. It needs that context. People who are distracted by distant signs or a few blown highlights have completely missed the point. I don't mind a few imperfections in a street shot as long as the message is strong and it's an honest capture.

Keep at it.

Shame that the sign got in the back there, great capture of photo-journalism! =D
