I had a really tough time debating which picture to send in for this freestudy. I captured a lot of, what I thought were, really good animal pictures. However, I felt this images emotive response and amazing definition bested those images. Hopefully this proves right. I really am hoping this image can give me my first 6, it probably won't but I'm praying!(a pun on the subject!).

Post: The lighting several of you mentioned was a little washed out, this was actually my intent. I personally enjoyed this look a little better because I think it adds a little more power to the shot. I had a feeling people might dislike it but I just wanted to say I actually edited it to have an increased contrast like this, initially it wasn't like this.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: Made me question...religion lost, then found? Or always there even when you fall on hard times? A very interesting choice of topic.

Technical: Lighting is a little washed out in some areas, but dof is good. Like the extreme pov on the cross. I assume this is ambient lighting with sunlight; another stop or two down may have helped bring down the glare.

Artistic: I like the grit, gives a sense of reality; fingernails add a sense of scale and texture to the shot. Again I think the grit adds tremendously here to the impact.

Overall: Very decent shot. Not a mind-blowing WOW! shot, but I sense that wasn't your intention here.

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Nice and crisp. Good contrast too. I think the composition of this shot works well and overall its a very pleasing image.

I like the grit, but not a big fan of the composition and the lighting is distracting
