Did a PhD from mathematics for this one - the idea was to make progressively smaller squares, so that the smaller square touches the larger at the point of golden ratio division (b/a = c/b, a = b+c). The side of the smaller square is d = SQRT(-(2*SQRT(5)-5)*a^2), and each smaller square is rotated for ASIN(c/d)*(180/PI) degrees. I did the equations in Wolphram Alpha, actual numbers in excel, and used them to draw a model in Corel draw, and made the real thing in play-dough. Actually, it all started with buying a set of colored play-dough this morning - those things are on sale now before school starts in september.
I don't like the visible dust, but wth. Was really great designing the thing, and a little annoying to actually make it, because it's sooo hot here now...
Shot it outside on the terrace, with diffuse afternoon light. Edit: tight crop, curves and levels, noise ninja, resize, large usm, small usm, border, sfw. |

Odd photo, is it a sweet? The concentric multi coloured squares is 3 dimensional in a two dimensional image. Pity about the finger print on square #3 from back. |

I like the math pun, but the picture seems a little bit dull. |
