Taken from my balcony, this is one of my first attempts at HDR.

Generated from 2 exposures, the shots were handheld so when i tried merging the 0 exposure, it kept ghosting too much. I tried using my tripod each evening since that day but the cloud formations were never quite this good.

Merged and tonemapped using Photomatix, then processed in CS3.

post challenge:
thanks to all that took the time to vote and leave a comment. considering how many great shots there were in this one, i'm glad i ended up where i did. if anything, this definitely was a learning experience and that's what it's all about eh.

Hi from the Critique Club

You asked for a comment from a Critique Club member.

Amazing clouds!!!

The clouds are the selling point in this shot, they are very well processed, clean adn very moody, which I love. Your sunset behind it is good, you could have brought out a few more colours in it though. In post processing, grab your lasso tool, feather it to 150ish, and select the sunset. Then use your selective colour to add more feeling to it. This way, you will be able to only affect the sunset and nothing else in this shot. I would do the same for the foreground but use the brightness and contrast.

I think cropping some of your bottom off would have helped this with a focal point. At the moment there is none and the eye is searching for one.

This is a good shot that placed well in this challenge

You captured a great range of colors in the city.

The sky is ominous. Needs a focal point in the scene, rather than just expecting the viewer to look at the cityscape.

I like the cool looking storm clouds, though the suburban sprawl in the lower part of the image does not do much for me.

The sky is great but a selection tool to keep the sky like that and make the foreground look brighter would be nice in my opinion.
