Free hand. 3.5x zoom and manual focus (finally learned how to use it properly this week) with flash. A story of right place at the right time: I was picking up some leaves in the back yard. I was late because we had early snow, which finally melted today. I saw the little caterpillar in the grass, half frozen. I ran inside to get the flowers I had bought for my wife on Friday. The little guy was pretty sluggish, so I had a chance to take over 50 shots. This submission might be a bit cliché, but I really like it. Cropped approx. 40%, sharpened twice, increased saturation of green and red a little bit. Oh yeah, used a squirt bottle for a few "rain drops". Shot was taken after supper when it really started getting dark, which explains the near perfectly black background.

for some reason, i can't help but wonder what you did with the caterpillar, and for some reason, it reminded me of the book "hope for the flowers".

Thanks for the great comments guys. I finally cracked the 7 barrier for a submission. I'll take a top 10 finish any day.

Among all the flower and bug shots this week, this one seems to show more creativity and better framing/composition. Great job.

Funny title! Very good focus/color/set up. Did the catapiller co-operate, or did you just have to work around it? 9 Swash

Super. The dark background works well for this. Can't complain about the focus or cropping either. I can't really find anything to take off for but I don't give 10's unless there is excitement and whatever .....But it sure is as close as you can get with getting a 10. You know a 9+. PTL
