Challenge: Camera Movement (Basic Editing)
Collection: Challenges 2009
Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3
Location: Path near the river Main
Date: Oct 27, 2009
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 125
Shutter: 1/5
Date Uploaded: Oct 27, 2009

Took the trusty Lumix out riding this morning. Found a lovely little path where it was kinda dark - dark enough to use the Lumix at a low enough shutter speed to get the camera movement to register. Was fortunate that two ladies and their dogs wandered past me.

Converted to B&W using Nik Silver Efex in normal blending mode, with adjustments to brightness, contrast, structure - no spot adjustments or other effects used.

Not expecting this to do all that well scorewise, but am OK with that. I like this one.

[Oct. 30th, 2009 05:13:49 AM]

Doing WAY better scorewise than I expected! And thanks for the comments - very much appreciated!

Many thanks for the yellow P. :-)

Man, this thing just WORKS. Monet would love ya!

What a brilliant pic for just sheer compositional strength.

Only thing I'd like a bit better would be a tiny, tiny bit less strong on the edges of the points of light that got dragged up at the top, but that's impossible in Basic. Something like a Gaussian blur at 1.2 at 40% opacity just in the area of foliage at the top. Through the rest of the pic, it just feels like texture. And very, very nice texture.

Oh, way to go, Deb! I love when someone gets surprised by a photo doing better than they thought. I would have thought this one would do great in this challenge tho. It looks like a fine art impressionist painting! Congratulations on 7th place!

The dynamic quality of the dog with distant figures on a diagonal works well with the camera motion and excellent B&W processing. Glad to see I wasn't alone in giving this a 10. Wonderful to have it in the top ten despite being very different from the images typically up there in DPC challenges.

I really liked the abstract story vision of this. The fact that you can you can identify the three figures thru the blur makes this interesting. And it looks great in black and white. Congrats on the Yellow and 7th place!

Excellent. Good decision to go BW, adds charcoal drawing look to it. Composition leads to the light, follow the dog, follow the people... Good work.
