These four china swans belonged to my husband's aunt, but came from her mother to her, then to us, so technically they were once my Grandma-in-law's swans, but now my grandchildren consider them to be Grandma's swans. I set them in a black tray with water and black velvet backdrop, but the tray wasn't quite big enough and I didn't like the versions I shot with them crowded in on an angle. I tried glass over black cloth, didn't like the result, overturned the tray but the slight depression wouldn't hold enough water to get complete reflections. In the end I returned to the original setup and managed to get them in and just covered the sides of the tray with the velvet so you can't see how closely they are jammed
