When I saw the challenge I first thought: bagpipes and a Scottish gent in a kilt playing it on a hillside. Then reality set in. I don't know anyone who has a bagpipe nor of any gent who would dress up in traditional Scottish dress...and I am nowhere near the scenic Scottish highlands:-)

I phrase I have said a lot lately is 'use what you have'. I then remembered my youngest has traditional Russian Nesting Dolls. For those interested in learning more about this cultural Russian Dolls: Matryoshka Nesting Dolls My thanks to my youngest doll for posing with her Matryoshka dolls:-) Hope this is well received.

Thank you everyone for the great compliments and the votes. Tis much appreciated - and a ribbon to boot:-) My daughter is pleased to have helped me get another ribbon:-) She even wanted to stay up til rollover to see the score - ack the update button bug is spreading LOL!:-) And no, she did not stay up.

Congrats on your ribbon winning image, and on such a sweet faced youngster as the model. For what it's worth, I think you should have let her stay up just this once for the rollover.

Congrats on the ribbon!

I came across the first use of the Matryoshka dolls in a David Ogilvy piece where it was stated that the dolls were used by Ogilvy to convey a powerful message to his managers contained in a slip of paper inside the last doll - if you hire someone less capable than you, this is what you will end up with.

Lovely portrait - nice use of the light! Congrats on your ribbon! And I don't think Sander's comment in Russian translated very well... :-) I do like how you can see the differences in the dolls - that's one of the fun things to find with these.

This is beautifully lit, love the duotone and emotions shown in the shot. I just don't like the background, I have a feeling its a bed-sheet to give a faux wallpaper look, but the wrinkels are giving it away. Still one of the better shots in the challenge! 8

excellent photo, love B&W's and this is no exception. The little girl is so classically Russian in appearance it adds a nostalgic feel to the photo. good lighting. I would have gone even higher with a little shallower DOF. Nice 7
