One of my skeletal audience members and a chimpanzee ornament I was lucky enough to find. (I had to powder his muzzle with soot from my woodstove to kill the glare I kept getting underneath a nostril. Looked like a fresh booger!) I was given the Bible by the Sally Ann, and a client loaned me the book on Darwin. Shot with a handheld floodlight, camera on tripod. Location is the Closet of Doom in the upstairs studio of Chateau Snaffles.

Chose this idea mostly because, of course, science and religion have clashed heavily in the past in terms of Creatonism and Darwinism. Was hoping to narrow the focus a little more and winnow it down specifically to the infamous Scopes Monkey Trial which took place in Tennessee in 1925. However, it was easier to find a book on Darwin than Scopes.

Hey there from the Critique Club

My thoughts on the image: Nice combination of interesting elements that cover both sides of this 'argument' between science and religion. I like the left-to-right flow that you created with the books, but overall, the image is a bit to dark for my personal taste.

My ideas for improvement: I think that this one would have made a stronger entry with a little more exposure, as well as a black and white conversion. I'd also like to see the cloth underneath your subjects the same black color as your background.

Where I would have/did score this entry: I did not vote in this particular challenge, but I would tend to agree with the voters here. I would have most likely scored this one in the 5 range, perhaps 6 because I do like the subject matter. I think that a black and white conversion would have given this one a little more pop.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric

I like how you put the bible and Darwin up against each other. Great idea!

Great idea - Pitty there was no "eye" contact from the Skeleton and more light on the bible.

A nice idea, although maybe i would have placed the skeleton along a bit more so the title of the book underneath could be read.

very well set up for the message you are getting across tot he viewer. I cannot help but think that if would have helped if you had more than one light source though.

Great humor shot! Nice lighting and angle. Maybe cropped a bit tighter on the right to avoid the crease. No vote.
