Flash directly hitting the subject creats dark shadows, making this as ususal snapshot.

Very creepy. The harshness of the flash actually adds to that atmosphere by projecting the shadows.

The figures are a bit naff. But i like the tools hanging on the left - perhaps a photo of those would be better.

Normally flash-lit photos like this look really bad, but you have processed this in a way that has minimised the flat look and made something much better.
