Special thanks to Ron for being so kind and posing for me.

Last minute entry, sitting in the coffee shop of a small town in the middle of nowhere, trying to submit in time. I don’t really like the name of the picture.

Edited on my uncalibrated laptop in Photoshop Elements.

Thank you all for the great comments and votes.
Here is an unedited version of this image. One of the reasons i went B&W was that flower in front of the man's hand. In B&W it is not that distracting.

The polka dot wild rag, the stripped shirt, the patchwork vest and the old hat....all perfect! I just know his horse is waiting for him outta the shot somewhere. Great portrait!

What tonal range! I love it. This photo is a education in BW photography. Very deserving of the ribbon.

Holy cow! I recognized Ron immediately. I spent a good long while chatting with him when we stopped in Calico during our Route 66 vacation back in October. Wonderful :)

Congrats on the ribbon!

It's an excellent photo. I wonder what's up with the little plant in front of his hands.

I like this but it seems like the depth is odd. I love the age in the hands but with them in the foreground the face seems out of proportion. interesting

I'll go along with the cowboy and polka dots, but if I ever find one wearing pink flip-flops, I'm moving to another state. First rate portrait, BTW.

Fabulous portrait. But I feel the dots are incidental to the shot, and not the theme of the shot. Great face!!

Wow, great dynamic tones in this photo and what a great character portrait of this cowboy gent! Love all the sharp detail and the textures one sees here. Not the 'typical' dressage a cowboy would wear in a bandana but most definately adds interest and character to this unique man. Love the sepia/B&W for it calls attention to all the details that would most probably compete/clash for the eyes attention had it been in color: the stripes of the shirt along with the polka dot bandana. The other thing that grabs me is his pose - this is a showdown. His arms crossed across his chest, one in a fist and his straight on stare that bores into you - I get the impression that this is a staredown shootout:-) Great portrait work - I can see this making it's way into the top 5.
