 Shot for the Contre-Jour challenge but thought I'd sneak it in here instead for fun as there were less entries. This was an experiment in how my D90 and the Sigma f/2.8 handles backlighting and detail with Active D Lighting. Highlights seem more difficult to control than with film especially in Basic Editing. I like the small amount of grain that resulted from a double crop and "zooming" in and am happy with the faint blues/purples retained in the shady side of the unopened buds.
I'd be lucky if this "Close-Up" gets 5+ but am hoping for comments as always. Highlights will be hammered no doubt!
PP: Crop, Curves, Crop again, played with Sat/Colours but made little if any difference, USM, Borders, SFW

oh, so that's what it is...excellent job....I should have a boat load of this ladybug larvae all over my yard now....lol (I got 1,500 ladybugs for this challenge and released them in my yard...hmmm)

The background in this shot is superb. The harsh lighting of the main subject detracts from the shot a little but otherwise a well composed image.

Cute! That looks like a ladybug larvae to me. The shot is somewhat overexposed. Not easy finding the right balance but if you can underexpose just a bit at times, after tweaking the contrast/brightness, it might make the final shot noisier but you'll have more details in the highlights.

Really difficult exposure here, strong side light on the subject and stamen with a dark background. The bug seems overexposed partially and also i miss a little sharpness on it (not sure about this). Love the background and the light through the stamens.

simply stunning .. love the beautiful lighting and colours .. the little bug hanging on there is just an added bonus . on just the right stalk .. it looks almost lit from within .. great shot ..
