 yes, it was taken with a DX-format lens on an FX format camera. Turns out that if your set it at 18mm or longer, the circle vignette disappears, so it does serve as a decent wide-angle lens at full 12MPx resolution

The rocks add a bit more interest to this shot, but FS are notoriously plagued by seascape shots, and you really need to do a lot to separate yourself from the field. As a photograph, I like it though.

This wide angle seascape vista is stunning - each cleft of rock covered in shallow reflective tidepool, each softly blended wave and beyond that the vast expanse of calm water, each defined cloud of the echoing skyscape and the tinge of colour to the right all enhancing each of the other elements. This is Photography elevated to the categorization of Art. Superbly beautiful, I could look at this for hours.

This image offers something but does not quite hand it over. There are many great elements here from the dramatic nature of the clouds to the drama of the water paths on land. The hint of great colour lays hidden within muted tones. There is hope here... but not just there.
