Challenge: Free Study 2009-12 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Date: Dec 3, 2009
Aperture: f/9
ISO: 200
Shutter: 8 and 30 seconds
Galleries: Cityscape, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Dec 23, 2009

This shot of the Cape Town city bowl and Table Mountain was taken from the top of Lion's Head. Two exposures were used. The darker of the two was only used to bring down some of the blown city lights. Besides the blending, some noise reduction was done on the sky, and a little bit of contrast was added. A variation on the "Adamus" sharpening/resizing routine was used.

I am yet to reach 3 of my goals for 2009, which are to ribbon in a FS, get a red ribbon, and be mistaken for a DPC heavyweight. I don't think I'll reach any of those goals, but one can always hold thumbs :) There's always next year.

Awesome shot Philip, especially when you don't know what the weather will be like when you get there. Sunny at home and wet 1 hour later! I like the sky, it envelopes the scene as if everything is emanating from the city. Hope you had a great Xmas and New Year.

I really enjoy the way the city stretches off into the distance, and the lighting on the mountainside is interesting too. Cool photo.

Very well executed - quite striking. I like the way the image has separate sectors, each with its own appeal.

Very cool scene! Sky color feels off a bit, but nicely done overall.

The lower third is a great picture. I think there is far too much sky.

There is a nice element with the lights upon the structure on the right. Though the sky seems or appears too bright to have so many lights in the city. Overall it is an interesting image but for me just does not offer a strong wow factor.

With shots like these the whole world will come visit us. Beautifully taken and never seen Cape from this angle. Trying to figure where this was taken from. Could only be from signal hill, yet it seems much higher?

I gave you a 10 just because I love Cape Town! Go SA!
