This is a beautiful picture of a handsome man with a wonderful expression! The flowers do get in the way along with the unknown blurry object at the bottom right. On my screen, this is a bit over-bright, which unfortunately may be the only thing you can fix. Too bad, you have a good eye for timing. |

I think the placement of the flowers detracts from the image. |

Excellent photo, great capture on the emotion! Only complaint is that its too bright. Play around with the brightness/contrast. =-) |

Nice portrait of a "classic" face. I like the directional lighting but it may be just a tad over exposed. Too bad you couldn't have moved to the left a bit to remove the distracting and OOF flowers. The backgrould works well with nothing really detracting from the subject. |

That title is not really a headline making it difficutl for me to make the connection to the challenge.
As a portrait it has potential. The lighting and focus are quite nice. The huge flowers overwhelm the subject. |

This does strike me as something you might see in your "local interest" section of the paper. I also like the expression you caught on the man's face. The two things that keep me personally from going higher is that the flowers seem disportionately large to me and the colors and focus are a bit washed out. While a candid news shot would very likely have glares, etc., as purely a photograph, there are things that could really make this a beautiful shot. |

Ok what I see as wrong in this photo Lower right is that a head? Lighting a little harsh on the flower. composition IMO I would have moved to the left to get a slightly more 1/4 view. The title...I don't usally take the title into consideration but this challenge is different.
Something like " Schools Out! Popular Teacher/Proffessor/Dean retires after 35 years" would be more in scope with a newspaper headline.
What is good, your Idea your subject, your capture of emotion.
I gave you a 6 which I gave as the average for this challenge.
Good Luck

I love the way the light falls on his face. |

Glare off of his face is a bit bothersome. Colors look dull also. Saturation may have helped. |
