 The Blyde River Canyon seen from the Three Rondavels viewpoint near Graskop, Mpumalanga, South Africa.

This image was taken during a photo trip that I took with a friend to the Panorama Route region in Mpumalanga from 10-12 January 2010. From photo from the trip can be seen on my flickr. We arrived at this location shortly after the official closing time and had to give the guard a small bribe to get in. In order to get a less obstructed view, I was standing on a somewhat precarious rock overlooking the canyon. Taken at the 18mm end of the lens. I used a 3-stop neutral density filter to hold back exposure in the sky.

Converted RAW in Lightroom. Noise reduction, resize, sharpen and save for web.

congratulations on an excellent interpretation of a very difficult shot. controlling those lights and darks was done masterfully. Doing all this while standing on a precarious rock gets extra credit!

personally I would have bumped this up if there was just a bit more detail in the shadows on the left...but that given...this is a stunning picture, such perfect colors

Incredible shot. Not sure if you were in a helicopter or atop a ridge, but you should email this to the national parks service, and see if they will license it for their tourism ads.

Nice composition and foreground, midground, background of the image. Lovely subject, too. HDR not done with too heavy a hand. Nice.

when we were there the whole area was full of smoke it was impossible to photograph
