Thanks for all the great comments. This is a crop, so the original plane of the DOF traveled as a diagonal (evision top right to bottom left). So, various pieces of in focus components were cropped out. I don't recall, but I think this was about 1:2 with regards to the macro, so at f/2.8, the DOF is very narrow.

My two most recent posts are uncropped, 1:1 @ f/2.8. I really like the effect.

As someone mentioned it does look like an octopus and the water drops adds to the effect.

It is so amazing that you isolated one tooth of the "fern" (I am guessing) to get that water drop. What a lens!! (And the photographer is pretty good too!)

That is some insanely shallow dof. It creates a very "tense" feeling, along with the serrated edges, in the shot.

I'm guessing there's additional blur added here (tell me if I'm wrong, please) but I do like the vibe. There are many single, lone, waterdrop shots flooding the planet/internet though this one is different because of the wide frame and additional shapes in view.

Excellent, lots of paths to follow, all leading to the center subject.

That's some insane shallow DOF! I like how the lighter area leads me right into the in-focus part.

The bokeh in the background makes this look like octopus tentacles :D Love the colortone. The way that you caught that spot of water is fabu :)

This is cool, if not entirely believable in shot? (Feel free to kill me). Or maybe it's my own lack of proficiency talking, haha. I do like it. What does the colour version look like?

Wow, that DOF is amazing. I would have expected this to be a lensbaby shot if I didn't know otherwise.

That's some lovely little spike! Wonderful bokeh and excellent black and white.
I love the abstractness of this one.

impressive! what i like most is the b&w tonality and the shape, i find the sharp area a bit too far for viewer perspective; i feel too much oof pops in my eyes

Primarily shooting a f/2.8 at 1:1 or very close to 1:1 with my 100mm macro. With this image, nothing else fell in to the depth of field given the POV and crop.

Pretty sure I've never seen that shallow of a DOF. It's very cool. I really have to take the time to play with my 100mm lens more often.

Very interesting shapes. That dof is so very shallow - I don't know how you achieve that.

The shapes through this image are really interesting, which makes the photos......shallow depth of field like this is not my favourite area, but you have both done this well, and have so much depth with the curved subject still standing out against the background that makes this image still really interesting. Simple border just finishes it off well.......
