I like the contrast and "silvery" effect. As far as the tonemapping, the thing that jumps out is the haloing around the treeline, especially on left side. It's very easy to overdo it and this can really be seen in thumbnails more than actual size. |

Thanks for all the comments i value them all .. i am sorry i can't tell you the exact location as it was shot a few years ago but i liked the subject to try on the trial version of Essential HDR [i have now purchased the full version] but we did a road trip in early October through NSW and Victorian alps. After we left Khankoban[NSW] we travelled along Murray Valley HWY to Corryong and i am pretty sure it was in that stretch then we headed from there to Omeo on a very long dirt loggers road that passes through Mitta Mitta and Anglers rest, The scenery is all spectacular and even more when there is still some snow around. |

interesting image
as with HDR sometimes the halo's can be a real distraction as i see in the edging of the background hills
have you tried photomatix pro? i use it for my HDR and its so good and quite easy to learn
as you see there are a few Victorians here in PaW too
i too would like to know where you shot this
it speaks Murray River to me

Lovely shot of the river and river gums. Being a Victorian I'd be interested to know the location. |

[quote=kellymk] Intersting textures and good contrast. Great 1st attempt. I just feel it's a little too much to take in at once. Just a thought here - what if you cropped off the right hand third as an alternative composition? You'd have a reflected diagonal top and bottom right and a nice leading line of the trees on the left, echoed by the big branch. Just a thought, but still I think this is a great attempt:) |

Kel, first question is where abouts is this........I enjoy seeing the different locations, and especially phtos of back home cause i am stuck in cold, wet England at the moment............
The haloing is a detraction in the image. Would have been great had you been able to process and avoid the haloing........I tend to play around a lot with my images, and often get the colouring I like, and then go back from the start and reproduce it while making sure I avoid any major halos
The black and white is good. The large tree to the right though totally dominates the image, which means the row of gums on the far side, and their reflections in the river get missed a lot...........If you could have moved a little further back, then the gum, while still there (
cause it has a place) would then not dominated as much, you would have added some more trees from the far bank and then it would have worked really well............. |

A very good first attempt and a lovely composition. My only concern being the halo around the tree and the mountain. |
