This will get canned for not having a sharp focus on the bee but I like the effect and the bokeh in the background. Took heaps of shots to try and get a sharper focus. If anyone has any tips on capturing bugs in flight I would love to hear from them.

greetings from the critique club

Great image. I loved it in competition and still do when I get to look at it again here. There are some of those flowers in an Australian Arboretum in Northern California and they also attract bees. Big, fat beasties!

You did just fine with this one. Yeah, your subjects were a bit far away from each other, but what bokeh in between! I liked the balance very much and while the border (your comments were split on that one) was helpful, I do wish it had been a different, pastel color. Just enough to be 'there' without being obtrusive.

Shooting bees? Just what you are doing; lots and lots of exposures. They are hungry and not apparently very interested in stinging nosy photographers.

All in all, a good image. Keep 'em coming!

Alice

Nice dual-focus, feels like the insect's pov.

Lovely simple shot with great composition and frame. A pity it seems over sharpened.

Beautiful! I'm not sure the border works (well, it doesn't for me) but it hasn't affected my voting. Excellent photo.

Very, very nice. Colors are amazing and keeps the eye moving between the bee and the flowerish thing. I do think that without the border there would be too much negative space and your eye would wander away. (Good thing you added the border). 8.

I like the fact that you got a good shot...but, if only it could of been sharper.

The inline border is a BIG mistake here, since so much of the picture is in the far lower left and the border chops that up badly. Otherwise really cool shot.
