 My daughter, my most willing model, again.

Set up in the living room, with black backdrop, taped to the wall. Used 1 main light (500W tungsten) at approx 45º, a reflector on the her right to fill in a little, and a 100W tungsten above to light her hair. She was sitting about 6 feet from the BG. Chose this lighting setup to try the Rembrandt style of lighting. This creates a lit triangle under the eye away from the main light. Chose to fill it in a little to lighten the harsh effect it generaly has.

Shot in RAW and converted using EVU (-0.5 exp comp), reduced contrast and changed white bal to 3600ºK. Shot using my 50mm 1.8.

In PS7: slight D&B around her right ear, few blemish repairs and cleaned up under her lower lip (she bites her lips alot), dodged the hair to bring out more highlights, adjusted levels on the eyes to make them stand out more, crop, resize, USM and Gaussian Blur (except on the eyes), reduced to 25%.

Lighting: well balanced with a good catchlight.
Pose: works well.
Background: Works, but there needs to be more separation between the hair and the background.

very nice portrait, lighting is right, I wish you had used a slighty lighter background color to give more definition to the outline of her hair

Very nice portrait. I like the soft lighting and the focus. I am a bit distracted by the shadow on her right eye and cheek, and her hair tends to blend in with the background. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful image. :o)

I think this is a nearly perfect child portrait. Personally, I wouldn't have used wet hair, but that is a small suggestion. You made the skin tones look perfect, and that is what creates the Wow factor I think.

very nice well taken shot. definately looks professional. looks like it's had a touch of post shot softening, but it's been done to a gentle level and works really well. kid has a good expression, and is very photogenic. i think a coloured background might have given greater definition for her hair (kind of dissappears behind her ear), but it still works. my fourth (and last) ten of the week.

You either spent a lot of time setting up the lighting, or have a nice studio cause it's spot on. You got it all, hair light, catch lights in the eyes, beautiful highlites and shadows. Kudos

I think this is a nice portrait, however the lighting seems a blit too dark. Her head fades into the background.

Nice pose, good crop, but the colour seems a bit off, the white balance needs to be adjusted, there seems to be a magenta colour cast...look at the white of her eyes...not white but pinkish/purplish colour.

The hair on the left side behind her ear seems to blend with the background. You can slightly see the seperation but i'd prefer more seperation between them.

I think a reflector on the left would have taken away some of the shadow on her face, but overalll I like it. Nice sharp eyes.

She is a very cute kid but her hair looks either greasy or wet. Next time, I would suggest waiting untlil her hair dries or using less hair product. The capture of her eyes is very nice and her lips look natural.

Nice light and focus. I'm not crazy for the partial shoulder..maybe a tighter crop? Good luck in the challenge.
