Truly didn't deserve all those 1's and 2's or even 3's for that matter. It's a good photo, I think it's just the dog thing that got you unfortunately. Too bad, I like the picture quite a bit. Thanks for taking the risk. :) |

I think dogs are persons, too. Sorry to see all the negatives on this, I loved the shot! |

Not a person, but:
Lighting: Needs a reflector bouncing light up to the lower portions of the face to get rid of the harsh shadows (or at least reduse them enough to restore detail). The eyes are dark and unexpressive; a catchlight would have helped greatly.
Pose: works well.
Background: fine. |

Of all the dog shots, this is porobably the nicest done. You need some more light though. Not a lot, just a bounce light from the bottom to fill in the lost details and a touch of catch light in tht eyes and this would be the bomb!

I can't really say this meets the challenge of shooting a PERSON, but it is a good studio portrait. Good overall lighting, color and focus (I'd just like to see the eyes a little better). |

Studio portrait of a person? |

I'm missing the top hat, cigar, and "Vote for Me" button :)
S/he looks very "dignified" under the circumstances -- good job getting the focal plane centered around his/her eyes. |

As good as this portrait is, I can't award you full credit due to the fact that the instructions specifically stated to shoot a portrait of a person. Sorry! :o) |

Lovely focus, color......and really like the pose, the direct stare of the mayor! Would have liked less shadows (especially under the chin) and to be able to see the color of his eyes |

This has got to be one of the most fun shots in the competition. The title really works as well. More definition on the eyes might have helped a little. |

This has better lighting than a good majority of the pictures in this challenge. Nice work. |

9 for creativity alone. Your lighting is also well done... he looks more like my Senator. |

Not quite sure what to say otherwise. I love this though. 9. |

If you're going to do a portrait of a pet this is the way to do it. To make it even better, add some fill light in front to catch the eyes. |

Beautiful animal in nice lighting. You need another light to show the eyes more. There was an article on Paul Harvey today - a small Mexican community elected a MULE as Mayor. The local priest said thet "Mr. Pickle" (the mule) was the only candidate that was not corrupt. Since the instructions were clearly a person - I'm sorry I can't rate this very high. |

Obviously, this doesn't meet the challenge. It's also a bit dark, particularly around the eyes and under the mouth. I like what's going on with the ears (how did you do that?) but I miss being able to see those eyes. |

Sorry I don't consider dogs to be persons. Nice shot though. |

I'd like it much more if his ears were in the correct position and if there were some light in his eyes. Also, I think a little more depth of field would have helped. |

Very important item missing in this photo. It's the eyes. Eyes is the most important thing in a photo. |

Despite the fact that the challenge clearly stated the photo should be of a person, I think this is an interesting shot. The lighting is quite harsh, though and not typically what you would find in a studio type portrait. Perhaps a little light on his/her face so that there would have been a reflection in the eyes would have helped to brighten up the photo a bit. |

Doesn't meet the challange of taking a shot of a person.
Good image though
Good luck |

Interesting take, doesn't feel like a portrait in the traditional sense, but evokes emotion and humor. I wish I could see his eyes, though. A very powerful shot, regardless. |

a bit dark. I think there are better ways to portrait a dog, it looks a bit artificial this way. |

I love the thoughtfulness of the photo. I know like mine he is a part of a family and therefore human. You have captured him well and I will vote high because I know how difficult pet pics can be. Love the tink of pink with the ears back. 10 |

How cute! I'm betting you're already tired of the "does not meet the challenge" comments since the dog isn't a "person" Shows what they know! I love this shot, the lighting leaves a bit to be desired, the shadows are overpowering the shot itself And DOF is off just a bit, seems the whole shot should be in focus, the ears a bit fuzzy and it's not the hair, LOL! A 7 |

I'm sure you've had everyone quoting directly from the challenge description noting the word..."Person" .....so I'm sure you'll understand why I must vote you low even though it's a nice portrait of a nice doggy. |

Not sure if people will like it because it is a dog portait and not a human portrait, but it is different. Nice lighting. Wish I could see more of the eyes though. |

Next time, try focusing on the eyes. They look like empty sockets--very spooky. I don't really like that his ears are folded back. That's just weird. |
