This is the local bird mafioso, Big Red, at my birdfeeder. This is the biggest, meanest-looking cardinal I have ever seen and watched up close. Big Red does not seem to be scared of anyone or anything, he doesn't even raise his crest to intimidate other birds! With that beak he looks like he'd have no problem slicing off your finger if he felt like it. Suffice it to say that when he's at the feeder, he usually has it all to himself.
Shot handheld through a window, cause it was too cold to have it open :-)
pp: RAW-TIFF conversion, brightness, contrast, saturation, resize, usm, sharpen, fade sharpen, save for web
PS I even saw him today, May 11, at the feeder and knew it was him by his surly expression. And yes, he was there all on his own. |
