This one is a Citrus Flatid Planthopper (I had to do an ID request on BugGuide to find that out). Latin Metcalfa pruinosa. It's a nymph, and it secretes waxy filament to hide in. Why that would work on a green plant is sort of beyond me, but I've found this fellow two days in a row (on two different phlox plants) so apparently he's successfully avoiding predators. Still rather alarming to peek closely at fuzz and see eyeballs and legs. I now suspect everything in my yard of secretly being a bug!

36MM + 20mm extension tubes, handheld, diffused flash.

PP - cropped, white balance, burnt a little to better show details (exposure was quite tricky on this one), resized, sharpened, added border.

Interesting indeed. Is the filament stuff actually waxy, or is it silk? Is this guy an embiid?

Your comments are funny... makes me think: "Little Brother is watching"

How cute is that? Baby buglet all swaddled up in his little buggy cradle.

Not the most pleasant looking bug, even as a nymph. Makes me wonder what it will look like grown up. Do you have citrus plant/trees in your yard? Great shot though.
