This is an old veranda railing segment. Not much of it remains...just this piece. It was the original railing that was part of our front porch when we first bought the house we are living in now. That was over 30 years ago now.
This one particular piece was placed in the bottom of our backyard which is ravine area with loads of trees. For quite sometime, it was used as a "trellis" for cucumber or zuccini plants. For some reason, we haven't been able to let it go even though we long since should have gotten rid of it. In the meantime, I felt it was an interesting shot with its textures and the change of colouring to it made the textures seem even better (to my eye anyways).
It's weathered 30 years in the rain, snow and sun so, it's certainly quite fitting of having its portrait in this challenge. :)
I'm sure that there's technical issues somewhere with this shot that I'm unable to see, personally but, I'll wait for the comments to see what they are :)
(I'm following Dr. Confuser's request for narration in our photographer's notes as I feel that it's a GREAT thing for DPC. We see the photo and get to know the story behind it!)
Post Challenge:
Wow, didn't think this one would take the pounding it's taking score-wise! I know this will sound like sour grapes but, I don't understand why this scored below some of the ones that scored above mine??? I have NO idea why this did so poorly. *SIGH*
Think I need a vacation from DPC...maybe, permanently because I just don't seem to "get" this place at all....either that, or I need to keep a P&S and sell my other cameras???? |

You're likely right Michelle about the blur. I was using it hand-held but, I think it was also my processing technique that worsened it. I likely applied too heavy a hand in the noise reduction. I'm not good at it. That's likely coupled with trying too hard and overprocessing it. Another lesson learned. Thanks for the feedback! :) |

ok i will tell you that I gave this a 4. i felt it should have been in focus. I think I can see what is going on. Did you take this as a hand-held shot? If you are going to use a speed of 1/25 you are going to need to rest this on something or use a tripod. A slight shake will really show up in a macro. I've found that hand held shots start to look ok at 1/50. Do you see the blur in your subject? |

Good coloring here, but I really wish I could see the texture in more detail. |
