 Golly! She's a nasty-looking creature. And really quick!

If I breathed or she twitched, the branch moved and it was totally OOF.

This shallow DOF with creepy bugs is not for a the weak of heart. *sigh*

Anyway... I love this one ! I hope you do, too... but I know this gallery will be full of bugs and flowers. So be it. I still like her... even as creepy as she is.

100mm lens with an extension tube. I was so close and I just KNEW she was gonna jump on me.

This was the most amazing thing, actually. I was taking photos of her and she'd eaten a couple and that was really cool. But, then I noticed two bee/gnat-like thingies mating on a flower nearby, so I started photographing them.

I saw when she saw them... so switched back to her. In a half of a nano-second she grabbed and ended up with BOTH! One in each 'hand'! It was AMAZINGLY cool!

A praying mantis is a very graceful creature. Your image removes some of their grace, but at the same time makes them more real to me.

A beautiful shot and I like the additional one you added as well.

congrats lydia on a brilliant shot and the red ... i saw this in the challenge and it was my fav ..
the only bugs i reckon are creepy are cockroaches .. your praying mantis is luverly .. !!! ...

this would be a block buster in my eyes if only its antennae werent chopped off... that totally kills it for me... and the border isnt masively appealing to me either but wont significantly dock your score from me
