Congrats on taking the plunge....I love my Vivitar f/6.3 500mm, and have started to perfect the technique to get great results...have a look here for examples. There is also a Catadioptric Mirror Lens Group on Flickr that are fun and give advice.
Some advice....use a really decent tripod and mirror lock up if you can. |

congrats on the new lens and new camera .. fantastic shot of the bird .. love that he's not just sitting there but being so photo worthy .. & dont you love their feet and the way they hold on to their perches or branches .. so cute .. :) |
