(I will re-iterate and rephrase some of my previous comments since I already commented on your photo.)

COMPOSITION-CONTENT: The ice looks neat and i like it against the dark background. I would like to see more of that piece of ice at the left of the picture near the bottom. I think it might add to the picture. It is in focus about the same as the three main pieces of ice, making it part of the focal point of the photo, but not much of it is showing. Your comment on the submission says you 'cropped only to fit in the size specifications'. Maybe resizing instead of cropping could have included that piece.

BACKGROUND: The simple and uncluttered dark background sets off the shiney ice in the foreground quite well.

CAMERA WORK - TECHNICAL: Exposure is perfect, the tonal range and contrast add to the effect of the photo. Great use of depth of field.

DIGITAL PROCESSING - TECHNICAL: Turning up the blue for the challenge worked well. I would have turned down the red a little to take away the slightly purplish tint.

MY OPINION - I think it's a great subject and you did an excellent job of creating a cold and blue mood in the photo. All of the characteristics of the photo are in line with a great photo. Changing the camera angle, zooming out some, or maybe even resizing differently may have made it a great photo.

Icy cold AND blue. :) a nice shot. I like the clarity and focus on the ice cicle in front. the DOF is nice. nothing distracting in the shot. a very nice clean "blue" shot. angle and framing/cropping are all good as well. good luck in the challenge.

Nice one. It appears the limbs end but the ice still goes on. Very clean and clear shot. Nice. Nice subject and framing. PTL 6

I like it. Well done

Nice composition and subject. I like the sparkles. If I had a criticism, I think that the depth of field could be a little bit greater...to make that third prong of the central branch there a little sharper, while leaving the ones in the back (and the bg) softer. I guess knowing what camera you have, I think I'd have expected this to be sharper/crisper, but that might be an unreasonable expectation.

I know how difficult this shot must have been. Macro outdoors. You probably used a tripod. Somehow the focus seems slightly off, but only by a fraction and not really noticable at first glance. Good composition but a further vertical crop on the left would isolat the foreground even more. Overal 7.

This would also have been a great macro shot. I love the use of DOF here. BAMartin

the ice looks neat and i like it against the dark background, and you framed it good, but it isn't a real interesting picture, pretty but not enough wow. also, most of the ice is on a angle off of verticle, which would make it look more natural.

Very high quality image. Best of the ice/cold pics. It doesn't really make me think blue, but I think it fits the challenge well enough. Great use of a shallow dof & nice focus. Subject is a bit abstract which is cool, but doesn't have the emotional appeal for me that some of the others do. Still, it's definitely above average because of the quality. ~indigo997

Great capture. You must be a neighbour from up North. We just got another six inches of snow over the weekend. Nice depth of field. I'd like the middle ice strand a littlre crisper. Good job. Jacko 8

O' yeah! Well done, fantastic idea and you've done this well. Yeah!! Justine.

Very nice photo. I would have stopped the lens down a bit, because it looks as if your DOF is too shallow to capture any single icicle end-to-end. Otherwise very good, and evokes the blueness of cold.

pretty cool... might look better for the theme if you lightened the blue a few levels with photoshop.. it's really dark dark blue

That makes me feel blue just looking at it, I like the use of DOF on this picture, The background works well, though maybe a bit more light, or at least in the immediate foreground.
