Critique Club
Initial thoughts
Interesting composition, meets challenge well, light and shadow very strong
Composition/ Content
The diagonal angle of the face is a strong compositional choice – the line of the nose leading the eye down to the colourful painted lips. The close crop strengthens the composition too. Content is strong - the painted lines of the mask adding graphical interest.
Background
Little background is showing – there are some little bits of ribbon at the lower left – I don’t think these add anything – so I’d recommend excluding them.
Camera Work - Technical
Personally I find the exposure a little off – the highlights are too blown out for my tastes – although I don’t know whether this is down to original shot or post-processing.
Digital Processing - Technical
I am not sure whether the blow out of the forehead and nose of the mask is from the original exposure or from post-processing – if from the latter I think it’s been overdone.
Fits The Challenge
Both in colour and mood this definitely fits the challenge well.
Your Opinion On The Photo
This photo isn̢۪t one of my favourites though I do feel the emotional mood of it. That̢۪s probably because I don̢۪t find thse type of masks appealing in the first place. However I do think the image is a strong one both in terms of content and composition.

| I like this photo! Very nice lighting. The thing in the lower right corner is a bit distracting though. Also I would have like it more when the upper part would be in focus,too. The DOF is a bit too narrow for my taste. -stephan |

| Excelent shot! I'm not usually a huge fan of blown out highlights, however I think it works very nicely here. I really like the color, and the little touch of red is perfect. A beautiful subject. I'm not sure what the little objects down in the lower left hand corner are, but they don't seem to go with the rest of the shot. I love the placement of the subject within the frame, and the focus and clarity are awesome. Great shot. Good luck in the challenge. |

| Beautiful color lines. It almost looks 3D. It probably couldn't be avoided, but the items at the bottom left corner are a bit of a distraction. nonetheless this amongst my fav's this week. |

| This is really pretty... I like the blues that you have and the tint even to the white, I think the lighting is nice... and the whole picture has a cool sense around it. I'm giving this a 9, good job! |

| I'm not sure what the things in the bottom left are (perhaps some ties) but they don't seem to belong in the shot. Nice tones and clarity in the remainder of the photo. |

| nice shot. the lines create a very nice alliteration with the form (basically, good subject matter choice), and the form has an interesting relationship with the edges. the (slightly muted?) red of the lips offsets the blue overtones very nicely. i like how the mask doesn't look so much sad as it does downwardly contemplative and absent. but hollowness comes with being a mask i suppose. 9. |
