Not all Holiday spirit is joy and love. This sad and lonely man's family wasn't there on on Christmas day. He no longer finds the joy in this holiday so he doesn't celebrate Christmas anymore. He is sad because he's never has never known the Christmas joy that he sees others have.

Super! Not many people post these dark side holiday images. I think they are relevant and poignant. Congrats.

A profound image, whose twinkling lights belie the sadness.

I think you've done a good job of depicting how the holiday season can be lonely for some. There's definitely a feeling of melancholy here, and the B&W suits that well. The one thing I do see (because my mind works in strange ways) that takes away from your picture's sentiment just a little bit is that the headlights in the distance are right where his hands are. I just watched "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" last night and it reminds of the light balls that the sorcerers can create and throw. BUT, that's only because I just watched the movie. And just goes to show that we all have our own different experiences which affect how we see photographs!

Wow. What a shot. Splendid job of capturing the lone, and lonely, figure amongst all the seasonal lights, in the middle of an avenue all on his own. Poor man. This shot breaks my heart.

I find this shot particularly strong, because while it is not a celebration of Christmas, it is a reminder that not all are as fortunate as many of us to have a family to share the holidays with.

Excellent use of b/w, and congrats on being up late to get this shot. This would not have been half as effective a shot otherwise. Please keep shooting and entering challenges.

ETA: Must chime in and agree with some other commenters. Crop that last bottom half-inch or so to remove the plaque in the sidewalk, its lightness and proximity to you does draw attention away from the figure.

Or is it supposed to?

i really like how the title and the image seem to fit so well .. christmas is a great time for ppl to celebrate and get together with friends and family but many ppl are alone at that time .. when you know that most ppl are having a good time it can make that loneliness feel even worse ..
the dark night, the shiny lights and the lone man walking away from the camera all go to make up a wonderful image .. the black and white contrasty processing is excellent and adds to that moodiness .. altho judging by the light pole the image is vertical i still feel that it needs a very small amount of clockwise rotation .. other than that personal opinion i find this a very engaging image .. :)

Nicely done. A very Posthumous like image that works well. The mood of the shot very much fits the title.
I like the way his head is down and he is bundle up against the cold. This helps to relate the idea of loneliness

I get the sadness, that works. The bottom left corner is bothering me, it's an eyetrap; cropping the foreground would strengthen the impact a lot.

The image works well with the title and description. Only thing I would change is crop 1/2 inch off the bottom. My eye is drawn to the bottom left corner and there is nothing of interest there. My eye should be drawn to the lonely man. Well done!
