This little sparrow hawk decided to visit the back porch and after flying around a bit started walking on the screens. We peeked out occasionally to see what he was up to and he would just give us the eye and continue walking sideways along the screens. I finally went out with my camera and he did the most amazing sort of free fall backwards. He wasn't caught in the screen, but decided to hang there upside down for a few seconds and then righted himself and flew off a bit. After a few minutes he came back and did the same thing again. Strange behavior.

At first I thought poor bird? But then I read your discription, what a funny thing.

It's amazing. You just have to be in the right place at the right time to get a great shot like this. Wonderful detail in the image.

weird indeed .. i thought from the thumb that it was a dead bird and also when i opened it .. then i read your blurb .. it was such a pleasing feeling to find out that he was just mentally challenged rather than dead . its a great shot patsy . and so unusual .. i especially love the texture of the screen contrasting with the wood .. :)

That is very wierd. I greatly appreciate the back story because I was very curious upon opening the image. Nice moment captured.

This is truly bizarre! LOL! It must have been pretty funny though while it was happening. Have you googled to see if you could find similar behavior documented?

This is really a strange behavior for a bird, but we are luck that you had time to take this photo. Wonderful!

Maybe it's a submissive 'Please don't hurt me' pose. Whatever he's up to he gave you a great opportunity.

It's like an inversion table. He's stretching and releasing spinal fluids, heh.
