This is a photo of the innermost shades of the classic PH-5 lamp, a lamp designed 1958 by the Danish architect Poul Henningsen. The image has been rotated 180 degrees to create the impression of an otherworldly spacecraft making a touchdown on spindly legs. I chose black and white to emphasize geometry, contours, and zones of varying luminance. I used Unsharp mask in "Darken" mode to darken elliptical contours, making them stand out. All processing (including raw conversion) was done in Nikon Capture NX2.

That's a cool lamp and the photo works well in B&W. I think for this sort of subject a perfectly centered composition would work better. It feels off balance to me as it is.
