I pass this drill site on the way to work every morning. I'm getting quite curious as to what is going on in this field. For over 3 years now, there have been exploratory gas rigs up and down in this field just south of D/FW Airport. One rig will be there about a month, then come down, and a few days later, a different rig will be erected in the same spot.
I had shot this scene the morning before this challenge was announced. Of course the perfect shot is always taken before the challenge is announced, right?
Then I had a handful of overcast days when I could not duplicate the shot, but then Monday morning the overcast sky opened up just enough to give me a fiery sunrise behind the drilling rig. Different from my original shot, but still effective. Reshot it again Tuesday morning, with a clear sky.
I would have liked the blues of the sky to be deeper and more intense, but I could not achieve that without generating banding and artifacts that I found objectionable. I'm usually the only one to see minor banding in my own entries, but I believe they still have an effect on the overall impact of an image, even when not consciously noticed.
Post-challenge notes:
After a weak start, it ended up doing well enough to make me quite happy with it. |
