I don't think this would make it to print. It may be camera movement or the lion but it isn't sharp enough.

I love the composition... but... it looks like a pretty large crop of the original.

I'm sure the voters are wanting more sharpness than the crop can give.

I may or may not be voting, so please do not equate my comment with any score.

Nice close shot, but I fear that by NOT showing the Lions surroundings there is doubt as to the authenticity of where he was photographed. As long as you do truthfully mention it then no problem. He is also too pristine to be a wild lion. One noticeable scratch on the nose ridge and a near perfect mane is sign of a pampered lion. A few wildlife togs, myself included, often try to get the natural AFRICAN bush in the shot so that there is no doubt. This can however stifle creativity, especially animal abstracts. Sure NG have done stories about captive animals so this is not a reason for them not to publish. However, it's blurred due to a too slow shutter speed and thus camera/lens shake and would not pass their strict selection.

Composition, light, and color look good. But to me it looks a bit soft.

Seems to be some camera shake going on here which is a shame, a shaper picture and a bit of a colour boost would have made a great shot.

This needs to be sharp to work but not sure it is.

Nice light on him. Looks a bit OOF, like there was a bit of camera shake.

It is a shame that is not that sharp as it should be....

What a beautiful beast. I think the focus is on his nose - wish the eyes were as sharp. :)

I like the subject matter but the focus needs to be better on the eyes, the colour just isn't reaching me and I'd like to see the top of the mane too please.
