In truth luck played a large part in the capture not least in the light from an overcast but bright sky, an excellent softbox. The lens as stated was the Canon 300mm f4 with IS and with the addition of the Kenko 1.4x. This enabled me to take several shots without disturbing the fly, which I think is a robber fly.

This is a PB and I'm extremely happy with it, a 7 would have been outstanding but it was not to be.

Beautiful lighting, it's all too easy to catch harsh highlights on insects (plenty of examples of that in this competition) Choosing your location in respect to direct light can give great results like this :)
