I am totally fascinated by the interior courtyards of Lyon. Looking up is pretty much like being surrounded in NYC by skyscrapers. The pattern formed when looking at the sky is a design in itself. A multitude of people living there, some in decadent luxury, some in minuscule cubby holes, all sharing the same tortuous stairs and unforgiving air. They are for centuries solidly protected in their towers by walls with surfaces like palipsests and labyrintine corridors with immense doors loaded with sophisticated, stunning locks doubled by the modern dainty "digicode".
