Angle, perspective and composition is good to me. But the contrast is well.. not quite there, IMHO. I think different tones and ranges of darks and lights would make the image stand out more.

i cant put my finger on what about this image doesn't work. too much focus on uninteresting rocks, maybe?

I love the pose of the bird and how it is highlighted with the reflection on the water. You could have cropped closer on that part to emphasize how beautiful that part is. I would have preferred a shallower depth of field to blur out the background.

Nice catch. I think darker images as rule don't always score as well as a comparable lighter one here but I hope you score well.
