Photographer’s Notes
When we had a young family with kids in grade school, we would drive the 100 miles to Paradise, on the shoulder of Mt. Rainier, every summer and hike with the kids. It became an annual pilgrimage, a ritual of sorts, that they still often remember fondly.
They are grown, now, and married with families of their own. But after Labor Day, we all assembled at the Inn at Paradise for a reunion vacation of hiking. The weather wasn’t great but the company was. The food wasn’t great, but the hiking was. The newly restored inn kept the character of the original 1917 Inn, but failed to add Internet, wi/fi or cellular services.
This photo was taken out the window of our room, at the only moment all weekend we could actually see the summit. Low clouds and fog prevented it otherwise – Fall in the Pacific Northwest.
