African Scops Owl (Otus senegalensis).
Photographed in the wild during my birding photo tours. Lucky sighting for me. Spotted by my friends and guides at Seokama Private Camp.

Due their small stature (17cm/6.7" tall), excellent camouflage (as can be seen by comparing the uncanny similarity of plumage to the tree's bark), and that they are nocturnal, they are seldom seen. They are tiny. Slightly larger than your outspread hand.

ETA Post Rollover: I named him Camo Joe because I had often bought outdoor gear at a small privately owned shop near me called Camo Joe. It just seemed to fit. Appears that the USA also has such a shop.

What an astonished look! Must be still a baby. Extraordinary feathers imitating the tree bark.

Lovely owl....pity he get so lost in the image. A much tighter crop to emphasize the owl and all his feathery texture glory would've done wondersQ
