For 2012 Photo a week. Theme: Underfoot

After the cranberry harvest a few loosened twigs and seeds etc. get left in the irrigation ditches around the cranberry bog. Recently these were trapped in, and sit on, a layer of ice that formed, adding a sculptural quality that isn't there when they are just floating in the water.

ETA: I love that we can see one seed that already sprouted in the unusually warm weather that preceded this.

Topaz Detail; then Nik Color Effects Pro 4 to add depth and darken edges; Reduced brightness of a few over-bright stalks; Sharpened.

This looks almost like leaves stuck on a wall. The ice adds enhances this interesting vision.

This is so simple, yet elegant. I like this! I also really enjoy the splash of green from the sprouted seed.

Really beautiful abstract. The rich colors give this and almost Asian art quality.

for some odd reason this looks up side down, which is an impossibility for an abstract shot from above.

It's amazing what you see in photos that you miss when you you are merely strolling by. I can't imagine anybody noticing that tiny sprout - except when it appears in your image. I'm really enjoying your "underfoot" shots!

I am liking this little project of yours. Underfoot! In this shot, I like the textures formed in the ice and the golden colors of the winter foliage with the darkened ground underneath. This shot also has a nice story behind it.

I just recently got a book full of photo projects for christmas. In it, there was a creative project to freeze some fall or winter foliage in your freezer using a casserole dish, then take it outside to shoot some macros. The guy used the 100mm macro lens and his shots turned out something much like this! So, if you had marketed this idea first, you could be enjoying some book royalties right now! I'm just sayin'...

Maybe you can publish a coffee table book full of your underfoot shots with all the stories!
