Ratman's Notebooks was a book written in 1969s by Irish novellist Stephen Gilbert, about a reclusive misfit who looks after his old abusive mother in their decrepit home; his father is dead, he is miserable at work and terribly lonely. He finds solace only in the companionship of a hoard of rats that live in his basement; his favourite is a white rat he names Socrates. The book is written like a journal - it was made into the movie Willard in 1971 and another version was produced in 2003 starring Crispin Glover. Fantastic movie; the photo on the desk represents the deceased father and is in fact a portrait of Mr. Glover. My lovely fiancé John posed for this picture for me with our white rat Kain. I actually prefer my outtake for this challenge in every way except for Kain, in which he was randomly looking at the ceiling; I thought this looked better. I don't expect this will do well but I liked it and feel it represents the title and not just the story.

I'm tired of typing out the PP steps for every entry so I'm going to stop it; nobody is really bothered anyway and I feel like I always say the same thing since my process of editing doesn't really vary much.

Edit: It's the last 2 hours before voting ends and my score is crashing. I've gone from 6.14 today to 6.07, very disappointing. I only hope I don't drop from the sixes!

I had this picked for a ribbon. It's a great illustration of the title and story.

Because they are the lightest parts of the image, the lacy collar and the knuckles draw my attention mores than the rat or the portrait on the desk.

This photo is interesting so it made me google the book, and what I found is your entry really captures what "the google" said this book is about, so to you sir.. I give high marks. The noir style of the photograph is a nice touch, good luck in the challenge!
